Hello Models!!!
This week you need to submit a Magazine Cover or Spread of your celebrity. Let's see the photos.
Jensen: WOW. This is great. And so nice to see that you can do a different expression. A totally different look. I really like this a lot. Only thing I don't like, is the hair on your neck lol Otherwise, this is a pretty fantastic photo. I love the intensity in your eyes. I love the sparkle of them as well. Good job!
Ru: Looks like someone needs an eyebrow waxing to get rid of that monobrow, huntyyyyy. And those mustaches only look good on 1970s porn stars and me. But sometimes those mustaches can be good when you know how to use it, if you know what I mean. Apart from your facial hair, this is a very good beauty shot. Your cheeckbones are so sharp. It's very striking overall, and I could see it standing out on a magazine stand.
Nico: I really love the strikingness in this shot... your eyes pierce the viewer... seduce the reader... entice the audience. The magazine cover itself comes off as a tad bit boring and one-note... maybe a full bodied shot would have worked a little better. I do love the facial expression however and in the end this submission is still really excellent! Good job
Neil: 1883... is that the year that this shot was taken? Cause it seems like a cover that is trying to give off a really old feeling. Also, we need to take that extra hair from your unibrow and move it south the the missing part of your mustache. On the bright side, I do love your eyes and the cover does have a striking quality to it.
Chris: Love this!!! Effortlessly handsome and the cover really works on me. From your pretty and sexy eyes to the whole concept of this cover, it come across to me as simple but yet still brilliant in its' own way. Great job Aaron!!!
Jensen: I totally agree, I remember saying before the game started that you look like a real model. I'm glad you chose this photo. Your face is gorgeous. Your eyes just pull me in. I don't care that it's B&W cuz it's a great shot! Good job!!!
Ru: I'm flicking back and forth between this and your avatar, and I must say, I'm liking what you've done here more. Lighting up the shadows and turning that ugly sweater black and white makes this look more professional and appealing to the eyes. It looks like a very high-end magazine
Nico: Once again, this is great Douglas! Watch out boys.... I love that you took the risk and went for a custom cover (as I do a lot myself). I really like the modelling value this shot has.. The face is strong and the magazine looks professional (well aside for that white shimmer on your name... looks like one of those crazy fonts from the 90s lol). The hunched over body position isn't the most attractive and sort of comes off as a little bit too awkward to me. Work on that... everything else is great!
Neil: Love the cover. Having it in black and white was definitely a smart decision since often-times shots like this could be viewed as being too plain when in color. Your eyes are haunting here and I like that I get emotion from you. Normally, I might take a little issue with you being hunched, but I find it to be appropriate due to the emotion you are trying to convey. Great job.
Chris: Wow, I love that you take the photo from your avatar and make it such a beautiful cover. I thought this is a real VMan cover at first. This is great. I'm not sure if I like the color that you picked for the writings but it's a minor problem so don't worry. Great job, D
Ru: You have definitely misunderstood the challenge. The photoshoot instructions clearly state a magazine cover or spread.
High-Fashion and Commercial refer to the two major categories of fashion.
A magazine cover is the cover of a magazine.
A spread is a page or series of pages in a magazine with conjoined or connected content, such as an article.
An advertisement is an object (notice I use object and not page or photo), which third party companies use to broadcast their products over many different forms media. From online to billboards, to radio, to shameless plugging.
Therefore, an advertisement is neither a magazine cover, nor is it a spread.
I'm sorry, my dear. But unless Chris lets you resubmit, it's very possible you are up for elimination.
Nico: Aside from it not following the rules exactly... The shot itself feels a little too dark. I'm not particularly in love with the facial expression either... I do love the suit and the setting though. Modelling is okay here... but yeah... you may have been better off at least making a custom cover or something. Good luck
Neil: You may have misunderstood the challenge, but it won't do anybody any good for me to harp on that since it's already been pointed out. Instead, I'll just critique this shot itself since it's always good for us to compare tastes with one another to meet a more mutual ground with shots in the future. You have a nice, classic suit and the pose is fine, but the expression is a bit creepy. I'm also not loving your hair. I feel like you normally have it styled much better than this.
Chris: Hmmm.. I'm really scared of this photo. It gives me a serial killer vibes. I looked for a cover and you didn't have one but you still have a lot of magazine spread. I found one from Huf Magazine and you have lot of spreads in that magazine. For example this one
Jensen: A magazine spread would have worked, like Chris said, I searched as well. Your shot is ok, and strong but not going to do well against people who actually followed the guidelines
Ru: I think if you ran this through photoshop and made it black and white, the cover would pop a bit more, and give it a more high-end feel. It does look high-end as it is. However, I am definitely not a fan of the thick facial hair. I don't really think it suits your face.
Nico: I have a thing for facial hair so i'm not gonna deny that I find you hella sexy in this shot! haha I love the pose and and the attitude you give off. I agree with Ru about this being stronger in B&W. I also find that there is a little too many words around your body. However I do really like this, so great work this week Hugh!
Neil:
I have to agree that this cover was meant to be in black and white. However, I think it still works in color. There's a nice sheen to the suit that I tend to respond well to. I like the poise and dignity to this shot and it's nice to see a bit more mature of a look since you have such a baby-face in your avatar.
Chris: Yeah the one that Neil changed to Black and White looks better but nevertheless I think you did an amazing job this week. You're so hairy and sexy. I love your style so much. I'm a fan of this shot. Keep it up, Hugh.
Jensen: I like this, but I don't lol I was like ohhh that guy is hot, but who is it lol I had no idea it was you. It's pretty good for the high fashion take on covers and very lovely to look at.
Jensen: You have a wonky eye. No problem, so do I lol I like this. We're seeing a different expression and the in your face close up is pretty attention grabbing. I like your lips and I like the freckles. Nice job.
Ru: I don't think I like beauty shots being so close. For one thing, it makes your head look like you're looking into one of those funhouse mirrors. I think it could be a striking magazine cover on the stand, but I'm not sure if it's for the right reason.
Nico: I'm not a big fan of this. It's almost too in-your-face for me... there's no fashion value, and the modelling is just so so expression wise. Also, like Jensen mentioned, you do have a wonky eye... and for me it's a little too distracting since your eyes are the first thing that grab my attention. I do like the freckles and lips though.... good luck!
Neil: I'm not loving this cover, either. We're just going to have to be honest here and admit that Macklemore isn't going to win any beauty contests. Your strength and niche will come in you giving us something different to look at each round. Creativity will be your friend. Unfortunately, this beauty shot isn't doing it for me. At least the magazine is eye-catching, though.
Chris: You're definitely serving your face to us this week but I think you're being too generous. It's a little bit awkward. But you have a very interesting face.
Ru: There's a small quality issue here, Mark. It's quite odd because your arm seems to be normal quality, but everything else seems blurry. I think if it were watch advertisement, it would work well if closer up. But as a magazine cover, I'm finding it quite boring.
Nico: I find the quality perfectly normal.. nothing wrong in that department... the cover on the other hand is slightly boring but not bad. The body position is a little odd... for a split second I thought your knee was a large beer belly lmfao. I like your expression and the colours most! Good luck
Neil: First thing I noticed about the photo was that it was a bit blurry. I don't know what kind of graphics software you have access to, but it can sometimes be as simple as running it through a Sharpen filter (or something comparable to that). It might make it a bit grainy, but grainy goes over better than blurry with most judges. Still, I've seen more blurry photos than this, so it probably won't be held against you too much. I actually like this cover. There's a subtle charm and personality to the photo that is a bit more light-hearted. You're giving us different lines here with a pose that you won't see too often, so that's a nice touch, too. I think it's a fairly solid cover overall.
Chris: I don't really see a quality issue here but I find this a little bit too safe and boring. Where's the Marky Mark that rocked our body in Week 1. I need that Mark back. Whoever are you (Third Nipple Devil?) just get out from my Mark. I hope I'll get to see my Mark next week.
Jensen: I felt the blur at first until my eyes adjusted, so I see where Neil & Ru are coming from. I like this. BUT. It's safe and boring. You are like the king of Men's Health and Men's Fitness. UGH. This isnt' horrible by all means, but very very safe
Ru: Michael, this is straight up scary. It's sinister and I think it loses a lot of modelling value. I think a fan of the show would see this and buy it, but that's a very select audience. Others would be compelled to steer away.
Nico: I'm not a huge fan of Dexter (i just cant with his dialogue haha)... but show feelings aside I really like this! Like Ru, the shot is Sinister and creepy. I love how the blood red pops against all those shades of grey. I'm not particularly in love with your eyes... they seem a little red and puffy like you just had a good cry... the hair could be better as well. Aside from that, this was a good week for you!
Neil: That expression is very distracting. You're very much in your Dexter persona, but like RuPaul said, that would mainly only appeal to fans of the show. Otherwise, it would be a turn-off for most others. I do like your outfit here, though. It's a nice use of two different shades of gray with a great pop of red in the middle. It's also a bit more eye-catching than a few covers we're seeing this round, so it's a fine effort.
Chris: That expression alone almost make me pee in my pants. You give me a serial killer vibes here. Wait, this is still America's Next Top Model yet cause I'm not here for America's Next Top Serial Killer cause it looks like you and Eric are competing for that title this week. But, I love your styling. That red or maroon tie looks great on you.
Jensen: Very scary indeed. But so much of this is kind of boring. I'm not wow'd or impressed. You look handsome, but just too safe for my cup of tea. I love the pop of colour though.
Ru: It is a risk, but I think you're looking sharp. She's the accessory here, rather than you. The cover itself is in pretty bad quality. However, with a magazine cover, it all comes down to how well it would sell. That being said, I'm not sure it's striking enough to stand out on a stand of magazines.
Nico: Being brutally honest, I'm not the biggest fan of this shot. You may be in the foreground, but the "accessory" does better modelling in the shot. I don't like your face and squinty eyes here... also the stance is... well your just standing there. It wouldn't immediately grab my attention on the stands, but it wouldn't fall to the back either.. it's a decent cover... but not the best. Good luck!
Neil: Yeah, the quality is a bit off here (and I tend to harp on quality in a lot of photos). You're taking a risk here by having another model in the shot, but for some reason, I want to label this shot as too safe. I think it's because it's a nice shot of you, but nothing overly special about it. At least you do outshine your partner in this shot since the action goes to you through her body language and then you're giving us eye contact. I think you'll be fine with this shot, but we know you're capable of more.
Chris: I think you looks so smart and stylish here. I love this look on you. But somehow, Blake Lively manage to get my attention more. It's still decent and we definitely going to see you next week.
Jensen: I'm not loving this. Blake outshines you and this has that blur feeling that Mark's has. You look bored. On the other hand, it's a different side of you and variety is appreciated.
Ru: Tom, you've rebound from last week. It's still not the best, but it's a lot better. I think you needed to tweak the cover a bit to get rid of a lot of those shadows. It comes off as too dark and would vanish in a stand full of magazines. The most striking part of it is your body, which is covered with text.
Nico: thank GOD you chose this one. I personally LOVED this shot... super sexy and cool. I love the rustic colouring and the strong body position. The hair actually works really well in your favour here too... it has some really nice flow going on. I would normally say I hate the dark shadows, but I really like the effect it gives off in this shot. Only Con is like Ru said, the words over the body... aside from that, this is near perfect for me. Great work! Huge rebound
Neil: I have to agree that this is definitely a comeback cover. I'm fine with the shadows since I feel the darkness gives this a little more dramatic impact that could have been lost by brighter lighting, but have to agree that I wish those words weren't covering part of your body. However, we still get to see your face and it's great. Your hair is also really nice even if it is a carry-over from the 90s (I see the cover is from 2000). I also love a nice bicep on a guy and you have a nice one showing here.
Katharine: Great shot Tom. But I'm not sure with the angle especially because of the shadow on the right of your face. But the styling is great and the whole concept of this cover is good. But what I love the most is your left arm. So strong and yummy.
Jensen: I loved this and your third choice. I'm glad you went with this one. Yes the shadow is a bit much but we touched on that in our talk. I love your pose, your expression and just so much about this. In a round where everyone kind of was blah, you'll shine for sure.
Jensen: I like this, and I don't. It's soft and serene and simple, which sometimes is really good. But also in the bad sense, it's simple. Too simple. I like your expression and pose. Nothing looks awkward so I like that. It's a good shot all in all.
Ru: Is there something wrong with my internet connection? Or do I just need glasses, because I swear more than half of these covers have quality issues here! Apart from the quality, I really like this a lot, especially what we're seeing in terms of what you're wearing. I love the face too. I think this could stand out on a magazine stand better than half of the covers we've seen here.
Nico: I really do think there is something wrong with your comp Ru haha... the quality seems perfectly fine here as well. I like the simplicity of the cover, and the striking pose you have going on. I would've liked there to be eye contact in this shot, but it's not too big a problem. My only real cons are the text and shadows.. the text is an ugly colour and it blends into the photo too much at the bottom, while the shadows make your right arm look abnormally large. The fashion is brilliant though.. love that. Good luck!
Neil: The initial visual impact of this cover is great. It would definitely cause me to stop and take a look. I'm not a big fan of the emboirdery on the jacket, but I can recognize that as a matter of personal taste rather than it just being a bad jacket. There's a nice class to this photo that I really like. Nice to see you doing Tom H justice.
Chris: You need glasses Ru.. Or if you want, we can ask Michael to operate on your eyes. I heard he's good with knives. Back to you Tom H. What what!!! I see a really gorgeous creature in this cover. The angle of this photo is great and I love the styling. That sexy look is brilliant. Even the lack of writings in this cover didn't bother me at all. One more time
Ru: Hotlinking? In 38 cycles of this, no one has made the mistake of hotlinking from whosdatedwho.com or lucywho.com. I would have thought with Nico continously telling others to upload to an image hosting server, such as tinypic, imgur, photobucket, imageshack or even your own tumblr account. The magazine cover itself is not good either. You've hotlinked it from a website which has an extensive database of magazine covers, and you didn't even choose your best one, instead, it seems you've decided to rely on the sexual interests of the judging panel. Male modelling is not all about sex.
This is a message to you, and the rest of the competition: DO NOT HOTLINK!
Nico: Hot-linking aside (i mean really?)... the cover seems really boring to me. No fashion, lots of writing, and an awkward pose. You do look sexy... but like Ru said... antm is not all about sex. Not impressed this week Usher... good luck
Neil: I saw this pretty much ever Cycle in both the Male and Female Cycles: covers from Men's Health / Women's Health generally do not go over well. They have a certain style of modeling in their covers that works for their vibe, but doesn't translate as well to a modeling competition where we generally look for more modeling and fashion content than those covers tend to give us. And that's my problem with this cover. You have a really nice smile, but that's pretty much it to this photo. Also, it's a bit too small and I don't care what RuPaul's been trying to tell you in the bedroom, but size does matter.
Katharine: I kinda love your face but I'm not a fan of the whole concept of this photo. Even the angle of this photo didn't look good to me. And the excessive amount of writings in this cover also bother me. Too many information although I really love the Red Hot Sex Tricks one.
Jensen: I love the cover. I love nice guns (arms for those that don't know, what rock you under?) But the size of the photo is too small. This would be because you hotlinked and we didn't get the good size quality from it. You're hot, but come on dude, do not hot link!
This week you need to submit a Magazine Cover or Spread of your celebrity. Let's see the photos.
Jensen: WOW. This is great. And so nice to see that you can do a different expression. A totally different look. I really like this a lot.
