Hello Models!!!
Let's start the judging for this week. Only 6 will move forward to the next round. Unless the Judges save someone this week. Good Luck
AARON VS MACKLEMORE ~ AIR/WIND
Chris: I love this. Definitely can see the wind in this photo from the movement but that hat.. I don't think it's necessary to be in this photo. It looks like it was photoshop into this photo. Other than that, I think you came with a great photo. Great job.
Jensen: Short and sweet guys, I'm having a bad few days. This is cool. The wind is obvious and I like the uniquenss of the photo. I'm not fond of your hair here, obviously, it's too messy looking. I think you're holding your own though, good job. I know you might be like HUH? over the messy looking hair comment since afterall it's wind, but it just looks odd messy.
Ru: I think you've redeemed yourself from the scruffy, creepy guy we saw early in the competition. I'm not blown away by this picture, but I think I'm as blown away as I'm going to get with a male model. Your face is perfect, so is the motion with the wind. However, your arms are flailing a bit, and look awkward.
Neil: This shot has a good deal of potential, but it just feels like it didn't quite hit what it could be. I do like the movement of the photo and the action of the hat toss, but the arms are a bit strange and touching on something RuPaul brought up, I feel like your look is a step back towards the creepy guy from the beginning of the competition. Still, you took an element that a lot of people struggle with and you've done a good job showcasing it.
Chris: I kinda like this photo. But I wish you could explain more on the Wind/Air theme here. I like your style here. The combination of the styling is very interesting for me. The concept is great. I think the angle of your face could be better. Overall, there's a part of this photo that I love but the other part not so much.
Jensen: I'm on the fence here. I get air because you're up off the ground, but I wish we could see more air/wind or an explanation that nails it. I typically like profiles, and this isn't bad, but the hat just looks odd. It's not great but not bad either.
Ru: This is some top notch body modelling. But you're not modelling as Tyra Banks would say, from head to toe. In this case, shoulders to toe. Your face is really unflattering. This angle is not a flattering angle. In terms of your element. I think if it looked like you were levitating rather than balancing, it'd be stronger. I think you could've actually enhanced this by editing out that cinderblock. It shouldn't be too hard to do that in photoshop. Even I think I could do it, and I suck at photoshop.
Neil: Yeah, your face isn't the best-looking we'll see, but we already knew that you're not bringing the leading man looks that other models are more naturally inclined to do. I'm a bit confused by the connection between your quote and the shot itself. However, I love the creativity of this shoot. If nothing else, I'll remember your shot. I love the lines you're giving us from the shoulders down (like RuPaul pointed out). This hasn't been the most impressive round, but you've put up a solid shot and I love the thought behind it.
DOUGLAS VS PENN ~ EARTH
Chris: I wish we can see the setting clearly. I like the concept though. I think it's a very solid photo. Your styling is a little bit boring but I love your hairstyle in this photo. Overall, you did a great job. I just want to see the 'earth' more.
Jensen: Hmmm you look good and different, which is extra good. But I want to see more Earth in this photo. Your modeling is great, your theme not really.
Ru: Douglas, I think you've slipped a bit and opened up the door for someone else to come in and be the frontrunner. Elements is more than the element being present, it's about working with it too.
Neil: I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of your face, the posing, or the overall thought behind the shot. It feels like a Facebook photo (taken with a very high quality camera). The positive that I have, though, is that we're getting a different look from you. I was starting to get bored of your normal expression (the "oh, I'm so dreamy with pouty lips and a vulnerable expression"). I was starting to get bored, but I do appreciate that this is a definite change-up.
Chris: I want to see the earth more in your photo but I think you did a solid job this week. I love the styling in this photo especially that jacket. You look great in that jacket. I think you're modelling it well but overall, I think bigger size of this photo would help us to see the details in this photo more.
Jensen: I can see lots of Earth, it's that it's a small photo that kind of takes away from it. In terms of theme, you nailed it, but I think you've lost some of your modeling to do it. You guys all look bored this round. Please shave next round lol
Ru: It worried me when I saw Earth filled up first. Was I going to see a boring picture of a guy looking pretty surrounded by plants. Was I right to be worried? Seeing Douglas' picture half confirmed it. Seeing yours fully confirmed it. I am very disappointed to see that the Earth group are the only ones interacting with their elements or portraying them in a metaphorical sense. You have the face, but the rest is very boring.
Neil: I don't understand the distaste being shown for this shot. You have one of the most professional-looking shots of the round. I don't feel like the Earth in the shot is coming solely from the setting. I get an earthy feeling from the shot itself. It's the lighting and filter that really helps sell it for me. I also think the styling is great for this shoot. If I had to nitpick, I don't like the size. I would have liked for it to have been larger. Other than that, I like it.
ERIC VS HUGH ~ WATER
Chris: You're late Eric. So we have to deduct some of your points. I like this photo. I think you look great here. The water is definitely there. I think your expression is a little too rough. Overall, I kinda like it.
Jensen: This isn't bad. You're modeling well and the theme is hit perfectly. I'm just a bit bored by your expression. Love your arms though.
Ru: If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's tardiness. Even a minute late is enough to make my blood boil and my womenly juices stop flowing, no matter how sexy your picture may be. Eric. You took the easy way out with water, and did you use the opportunity well? I'm going to be frank. I do not like this. The best thing you've got going is looking like well endowed porn star (in both front and back), Rafael Alencar. There's more to being a model than looking like that. I want to see you work with it more. With your body. Take this issue of DNA magazine from 2010 with Nick Ayler on the cover. You can learn a thing or two from him.
Neil: You're just trying to get the judging panel hot and bothered with this shot. The theme's present; it's not the most creative incorporation, but at least it's there. The posing's a little boring, but you still look good in the shot (hard for you not to, though).
Chris: I think your eyes connection are strong but the main problem here is your expression. I think it's too moody here. But in term of theme execution, I think you nailed it. I love the concept but the execution can be improved.
Jensen: The eye contact is great. You've nailed the theme and not at the expense of your modeling. I wish for more expression from you here but that's ok, you're giving variety and I like that. I agree you look moody but it's something and you're not boring.
Ru: Echoing the judges, you have eye contact, and it's not eye contact which makes a connection. It's the emotion. Water is generally associated with emotions. And I see emotion in your eyes. Your head is definitely the best part of this, conveying the element perfectly. But the rest... Especially your neck - lost in the water. Being half submerged in water really damages this potentially good picture in terms of modelling and overall execution.
Neil: I'll just be repeating what the other judges have said: you sacrificed modeling for theme connection. I do like your eye contact and appreciate that we get some emotion from you (regardless of emotion, I think any emotion is better than a complete lack). The posing is strange and I don't care for your shirt riding up (unless I'm in the process of taking it off of you). Still, I'm sure you'll be fine with this shot. It has its positives.
TOM ~ FIRE
Chris: I'm not convince that we see fire here. I think it looks more like a sunlight. I hope other judges could see it. I think your styling is great. Especially the jacket. It looks so cool. It's a great photo, I'm just not too sold on the theme execution.
Jensen: I see you went about this in another way and it's actually kind of good. I almost feel like you're watching a fire and that the sunlight is the fire light. Your modeling is really good and styling is top notch. I'm not 100% sold on theme but I get it, and you explained it brilliantly. I'm not sure exactly where I stand on the photo overall. This will be a hard round because everyone was kind of mediocre.
Ru: Tom, I'm staring at your picture, trying to figure it out. Just what is it about it. I understand you're going for the metaphor here. Definitely seeing strong, self assured, confident. Your face is perfect and I think your body actually works for this particular theme, despite being basic. But there's just not spark. You say your picture is "bright" but all I can really see is darkness.
Oh wait, I got it. You're an arsonist.
Neil: I definitely appreciate your different approach to this shoot. You've tied your shot to fire in two different ways. It definitely took the explanation to get, but now that I have it, I do like the way you've completed the theme portion of the shoot. The shot's a little boring for there, though. It just feels plain with your basic stance and stare at the camera. You definitely will still get bonus points with me for the risk you've taken this round, though.
Let's start the judging for this week. Only 6 will move forward to the next round. Unless the Judges save someone this week. Good Luck
